GTA San Andreas Re-Release
Well the first nuggets of info are starting to come through now that suggest San Andreas will be re-released without the hot coffee scenes near the end of this month.

It has been suggested by Gamestop.com that San Andreas will be ready to ship on the 29th of August.

This new version of the game promises to come "clean" and not contain any hidden sexual scenes, however it still remains to be seen whether retailers will welcome this news. The hot coffee mod produced such a whirlwind of controvesy, many retailers may continue to keep it off their shelves.

However, it is my personal belief that the new version will be back on shelves as soon as possible. Many stores will not want to miss out on the many sales this game will bring.

Cold Coffee
Rockstar Games created a new website, which contains a patch, that will disable the hot-coffee scenes in GTA San Andreas.
So, if you want to disable or uninstall the hot coffee scenes, then go ahead and apply this patch.

NoMoreHotCoffee.com

Anyways, this patch also fixes a few bugs:

ADDITIONS

- Added support for 720p and 1080i HDTV resolutions (may also do 1080p, not sure).
- Version Number displayed on game title screen.

BUGS FIXED

*Issue fixed on machines where the OS has been updated (one OS installed over top of another) and has 2 registry keys that point to the users "My Documents" folder (we incorrectly used to assume the Win2000 folder, now correctly uses the last installed OS folder) - users know this as "user account period bug".

*Crash when entering advanced display options with only 32 meg of video ram (32 meg of video ram is not supported and will only allow use of 640*480 in 16 and 32 bit. At this resolution it is likely you will see the "Black Roads" LOD problem). We do NOT however disallow machines with 32 meg of video ram from running GRAND THEFT AUTO: San Andreas.

*Crash when entering advanced display options on a dual monitor machine after :- starting game on primary monitor in maximum resolution, exiting, starting again in maximum resolution on secondary monitor. Secondary monitor maximum resolution had to be greater than maximum resolution of primary monitor.

*Destroyed cars now are correct colour.

*Dirty cars now able to get clean.

*Numpad 5 key is now mappable when re-defining controls.

*Issue on all machines where certain collisions caused parts of the audio system to crash (sound effects, cutscene audio - only radio keeps going) - users know this as "Rain / Thunderstorm bug".

*Improvements to DVD streaming.

*Audio problems in interior / exterior transitions and getting in / out of cars fixed.

*Some fixes to ensure reverb is not present at certain save points.

*Improvements to dance game timings.

*Crash occuring when using "user radio files" while the frame limiter is disabled.

GTA San Andreas Banned in Australia!
It has been on the cards for a while and was previously thought that GTA San Andreas might survive Australia's strict age ratings.

However now it has been confirmed that GTA San Andreas has had it's rating completely removed. The Office of Film and Literature Classification board in Australia has demanded that the game be removed from stores all over the country.

Although the controversy may have put the game in the limelight, this obviously is one step too far.

It looks likely that GTA San Andreas will not be available now until Rockstar can release a alternative version that will not allow the 'Hot Coffee Mod' to work.

It's a real pity for all those GTA Fans in Australia though.

Reports are beginning to appear over the net: Softpedia.com ComputerAndVideoGames.com

However investigating the OFLC's official site, it shows the rating is still confirmed as MA 15 +

GTA San Andreas continues to take the heat
Now that GTA San Andreas is labeled an adult game ( meaning it's going to be very tough to get a copy for the time being ), politicians and anti violence activists around the world have seized the opportunity to attack violent games.

Not only are Rockstar taking the wrap, but the whole game industry around the world has been put in the firing line (no pun intended), with claims that "violent games make people do violent things".

Personally, i believe statements like this would grow excellent roses. In other words, grade A horsesh*t.

I take the examples of myself and many of my friends who play these kind of games all the time. Under no circumstances have any of us ever had the urge to stab someone, or even raise our fists in anger, just because we've been seen it in a game.

In other words, we have a firm grasp on reality and know when we are playing a game or not. .Unfortunately, there are a few desperate souls out there that do not know the difference. The simple fact is, violent people will always do violent things, and just because they replicate something they've seen in a game or film, doesnt stop the fact that they would probably have done something equally stupid at another time.

There is only one party at fault here in my mind. The parents who are naive enough to buy these games for their children.

Ok rant over. Check out this article that had me giggling at it's absurdness. Violent video games under attack

Decision taken...
"ESRB assigns "Adults Only 18+" (AO) rating for current version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas due to unauthorized third party "Hot Coffee" modification
Rockstar Games to cease manufacture of current version of title and offer a downloadable patch to prevent modification of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for PC
Company lowers third quarter and fiscal year guidance to reflect the expected negative impact on the title's retail performance"

These headlines appeared earlier today on the official website of Take Two Interactive, preceding an article which ended several weeks of scandal surrounding the so-called "Hot Coffee" mod, which let the player "unlock" content that was judged by the ESRB as "graphic depictions of sex". The mod was named "unauthorized software that alters the content of the original retail version of the title, representing a violation of Take-Two and Rockstar's end user license agreement (EULA) and intellectual property rights".
Hence the result: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is now an "Adults Only" title; this fact severely damages the game's reputation and puts it on a shelf with adult games, where, according to most of the fan community, it does not belong. This, of course, reduces the game's sales, which will have a tremendous impact on the publisher's profits (in the first half a year of its sales the game brought Take 2 more than half of its overall profits).

The game will still be published under M-rating, but later:
"Rockstar Games has ceased manufacturing of the current version of the title and will begin working on a version of the game with enhanced security to prevent the "hot coffee" modifications. This version will retain the original ESRB M-rating and is expected to be available during the Company's fourth fiscal quarter."

The most interesting thing is, however, the impact this will have on the developer for further support of modding (and modding is one of the major attraction points of the PC version of the game). Earlier on, before the release of the game, Rockstar Games' representatives said that they wanted to give much more freedom and support for the modding community. They have tried to...and here's how it came out.

Stay tuned for further information regarding this case.

(thanks to Gtasanandreas.net for the heads up!)
